Fall Rally

Kurt Senske, Chairman of LSS, Thrivent Financial board member, and author of "The Calling" was the key speaker at the GHZ Fall Rally at Living Word-The Woodlands on Saturday, October 1. His talk featured such questions as: How do we discover our calling? Who are you called to serve today? and pointed out that our calling involves a balance between God's grace and what we need to do to fulfill our purpose.

Spring Rally Announced

Memorial Lutheran Church, Katy, will host the Spring Rally on Saturday, April 21, where Beyond Transaction: missions as transformation (Acts 9-11) will be Vicar Ken Chitwood's topic.

Resurrection Women in Ministry – Spring (Fall 2012; date TBA).

Around the Zone...

Salem Women In Mission from Salem Lutheran Church, Tomball, Texas in the Golden Harvest Zone, presented a check in the amount of $1800 to the Water Well Team, Heart for Honduras, to build a water well in Honduras. The proceeds are from a recent cookbook "Scratch Recipes" that the LWML group and Salem women put together and is being sold in Salem's book store "Ignite". Pictured is Kevin Pieper, Kerry Johnston of the waterwell team and Phyllis Behrend, President of Salem Women In Mission (SWIM).

Epiphany's Day Lilies visited Bethesda Lutheran Home in October taking gifts of cookies and clothing protectors for the residents. November and December activities include making Thanksgiving plates for shut-ins and Christmas basket baking for Cypress Assistance Ministry clients. Busy hands and generous hearts!

Memorial Women in Mission show appreciation to: Christ Clinic workers, a monthly lunch; Pastors and elders, decorated cookies and cards in July; church staff, lunch in August; and congregational LWML supporters, punch and cookies on LWML Sunday. They've welcomed preschool parents with muffins and juice the first few days of school, provided a farewell lunch for their associate pastor, and hosted a baby shower for DCE Nathan Engman and wife, Sarah, who is the zone's YWR. The MWIM prayer ministry selects and prays for 25 families per month, letting them know they are loved and cared for. No idle hands here!!

Resurrection Women in Ministry appeal to the congregation's "sweet tooth" with a Harvest Bake Sale in November, and host the annual "Advent by Candlelight" program in late November to encourage a peaceful heart and spirit during the holiday frenzy in preparation for the coming of the Christ child. Rejoice, rejoice, Immanuel.

Salem Women in Mission "Scratch Recipes" cookbook commemorating Salem's 160th anniversary can be purchased for $10 each locally or by mail for an additional $5.05 (click to email Donna Pyle or Phyllis Behrend ).

St. John LWML kept up a long-standing tradition with their annual turkey supper in October—always a huge and well-known event in the community—with some of the funds raised allocated to LINC, Lutheran Braille Workers local work site, and seminary students. Great service, fellowship and mission project combined! Trinity Lutheran Church, Spring hosts a Lutheran Braille Workers work site which is partially funded by LWML, and they invite participation by work groups from other Golden Harvest Zone churches. Increased numbers of materials needed/requested call for more workers. Contact Jean Webber
