Let the light of your face shine upon us, O Lord.
Upon arrival at home, a father scooped up his one-year-old daughter, placed her in his arms, and began speaking special words to her. Her face lit up like a candle and giggles of glee and excitement spilled out. Her entire body shook with excitement. As he continued to share words of love and endearment, the cherished connection between father and daughter was clearly evident to others.
Two thousand years ago, another Father revealed His love, but not through giggles and excitement. Rather, it was revealed via His Son’s unconditional, sacrificial love for mankind displayed on the cross and confirmed on Easter Sunday in His resurrection. And as a result, we are not only assured of God’s goodness but also receive the gift of His light shining upon us, in us, and through us. With faces lit up like candles and with enthusiasm for the mission and ministry of Jesus Christ in our lives, He puts His Word into our hearts, minds, and mouths to reach those who have not yet received this amazing love. Through His words of love and endearment, the Holy Spirit grants the gift of grace and mercy as the connection becomes evident to others.
Dear Father, thank You for making Your love evident to all mankind on Easter Sunday. Use me as a vessel to reveal that love to others. For Jesus’ sake, I ask this. Amen.
