through the laying on of my hands. For God did not give us a spirit of timidity,
but a spirit of power, of love and of self-discipline.
2 Timothy 1:6-7
On cold winter mornings, I love to start a fire in the fireplace and watch the flames dance above the logs. Their warmth and glow invoke feelings of security and the beauty creates a feeling of peace. I realize what a blessing fire is as it remains contained within the safety of the fireplace.
Blessed with salvation from the Lord Jesus and the work He has called us to do, we, too, have a fire burning within. In Holy Baptism, the pastor made the sign of the cross on our foreheads and our hearts as a reminder of our redemption. While Timothy was commissioned as a public minister of the Gospel in the church, we are commissioned to be Christ’s ambassadors in our daily vocations, while also receiving peace, power, love, and security in Him.
Our joy is now to grow in our Baptism daily in the study of God’s Word. Viewing Him with eyes of faith, we fan into flame that gift of God and honor Him for what He has done for us and continues to do in us daily.
Prayer: Dear Lord, open my heart and mind to all that You desire for me through Your Word and Your Spirit. Fan into flame my love and passion for You. Amen.
