through the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord.
2 Peter 1:2
Many perceive abundance in the quantity of possessions or stock-piled wealth. Some desire the approval of others based on work done or accomplishments made. Still others crave the abundance of the warm fuzzy feelings received when life overflows with apparent happiness.
Yet today many Christians live in poverty, owning only scant possessions and no stock-piled wealth. For them, there is little hope of the daily approval of others. Abundance may be a simple as receiving one meal a day, safety from one’s enemies, or having a place to lay their heads. For these individuals, abundance is not in quantity but in quality. It is seeing Christ’s love and grace in the simple things of life and knowing that in Him, they possess a peace that surpasses understanding – regardless of earthly abundance.
Yet that peace, however, came with a price – the death and resurrection of the true Source of spiritual abundance. As we move forward in this life, may we be enabled to overcome the craving for earthly abundance, and see Christ and Christ alone as our true source of abundance.
Prayer: Dear Father, open my eyes to view You as the greatest source of abundance. Help me to realize the price Your Son, Jesus, paid to grant me Your fullness through the Spirit. In Jesus’ name and for His sake I ask this. Amen.
