love and faithfulness go before you. Psalm 89:14
As a young child I remember playing “king and queen” with numerous neighborhood children. We had no TV at that time, yet we understood about the realm of a monarchy. We always carefully placed large chairs for the reigning king and queen and allowed them to give orders to the rest of us, who were more than willing to comply.
Perhaps that is how we, as adults, picture God as He sits on His throne. In our minds, we may either see Him as a rewarding, kind King when we do what He commands or as a stern, punishing King when we disobey. Being a loyal subject means “doing” His demands, not always “serving” out of love.
Jesus is far greater than any earthly king. Scripture assures us that His reign is one of grace as He is born (Matthew 2:2), lives, dies (Matthew 22:37), and rises for us sinners. Rather than seeing daggers of anger in His eyes when we fail or a scepter of iron in His hand that punishes our misdeeds, we see compassion, faithfulness, and an understanding of who we are as His children. His Word assures us that His unconditional love and forgiveness have gone before us and will continually cover us.
Prayer: Psalm 145:13 states that “The Lord is faithful to all his promises and loving toward all He has made.” Jesus, I am so thankful that You are truly my Redeeming King. Amen.
