Waiting! We hate it! Standing in line at a restaurant, we want our food – NOW. Sitting in a doctor’s office, we want to speak with the doctor - NOW. Anticipating the results of a medical test, we want results – NOW. Minutes can often seem like hours.
NOW imagine God informing a whole nation to wait. Their rest could last a week or a month while the Israelites pitched their tents and waited God’s chosen time and location. No movement could take place unless God’s cloud moved first. They needed to learn trust. Yelling “NOW” was not to be an option.
Eventually God used a prolonged time of waiting to send His Son, Jesus, as our Savior. You see, at just the right time…God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us (Romans 5:6, 8). And so God uses waiting as a time for us to learn to trust as well. He will move the cloud when the time is right – not a minute too late or too early.
Prayer: Dear Father in heaven, thank You for sending Your Son, Jesus, to reveal to me that Your cloud of mercy moves in my life at just the right time – never too late and never too early. Amen.
