Doing something great
for one of the least of these brothers of mine, you did for me.’”
The King looks at His loved ones and responds with words of affirmation and encouragement. He doesn’t just see what has been done, but acknowledges the sincere motives behind the acts of kindness, the generosity, and the sacrificial love. His love for them moves them beyond all bounds to do what is best for others. Such people are often difficult to find and usually remain behind the scenes and in unexpected places, doing unexpected things. For them, doing something big for Jesus doesn’t mean having their names splashed on the front pages of the newspaper, but rather in the humble, quiet service dedicated to others and to Him.
Our King Jesus, understands that kind of love. He Himself displayed it through an undeserved sacrificial love, barely understood by humankind. He went beyond the bounds of time and space to do what was best for us through His suffering and death on the cross. In an unexpected place, He did an unexpected thing to provide the grace and mercy only He could provide. And although His death and His resurrection were not printed in a newspaper at the time, the impact was felt around the world and is valid throughout eternity.
Prayer: Lord Jesus Christ, thank You for being an example of service and unconditional love to me and to others. Amen.
