who have been called according to his purpose. Romans 8:28
“From this moment I began to conclude in my mind that it was possible for me to be more happy in this forsaken, solitary condition than it was possible I should ever have been in any other particular state in the world; and with this thought I was going to give thanks to God for bringing me to this place.” ― Daniel Defoe, Robinson Crusoe
When going through one of the most difficult times of my life, this quote reminded me of the Word of God written by St. Paul in Romans 8:28 under the Holy Spirit’s inspiration. Blinded by my circumstances, I was unable to see beyond the pain. But God in His grace led me again to seek Him in His Word. I realized that even in my worst, God was working the best for me. Any other circumstances He could have given me at that time in my life would not have brought about the same results – results that were needed to accomplish His work in my life.
During our most painful times, we are often unable to recall that our Comforter, Jesus Christ, experienced the most intense physical and spiritual pain possible on earth. Yet He moved forward willingly, knowing it would bring about eternal joy for Himself and others. And He will grant us that same joy – and that is something to be thankful for.
Prayer: Dear Jesus, may Your Spirit remind me that no circumstance in life is without Your comfort, strength, and courage. Amen.
