In the 1940’s my father, Martin Yungmann, became a carpenter by trade. With no formal training, he drew the blueprints for the home he planned to build. He then began to construct the home from the ground up. He leveled the concrete and laid blocks for the foundation. The plumbing and the electrical wiring were skillfully installed. The walls were erected by hand; the trusses formed and placed above that framework. After laying shingles on the roof, he completed the inside finish work. He knew how to build a house and remained a master craftsman until his death at the age of seventy.
Today we acknowledge that, on earth, Jesus was a carpenter by trade (Matthew 13:55; Mark 6:3). Yet there was another kingdom He was building that was totally different in nature. Not built by human hands, it was designed for His bride and paid for by His own death (John 1:12-13). The foundation was laid by Him and every aspect intricately built by Him. The house, kept safe through the Father’s covering, is now being finished by the Holy Spirit as He makes us a temple set apart for Him (1 Peter 1:5).
Prayer: Dear Jesus, thank You for planning and completing my salvation through Your sacrifice on the cross. Thank You, too, for including me in the building of Your kingdom. Amen.
