A Flowing River
like a river it flowed in the desert.
There are days when our lives feels like an endlessly flowing river, driven along by a strong, unstoppable current. Yet on other days life leaves us parched and dry, like a desert magnified by monotony and boredom. On both occasions, we desire a safe place to stand, whether from the current of unending work or the monotony of daily life.
The beauty of it all is that we already possess that safe place, a solid and secure Rock upon which we can stand. That Rock, Jesus Christ, doesn’t view the river or the desert as separate from Himself. Promising us with streams of living water in the midst of our deserts, He has provided the loving Holy Spirit as our Counselor, Guide, and place of refuge. And rather than being caught in the endless strong current of work or adversity or the pain of a dry, parched spiritual life, Jesus promises us new life in Him. Using His Word, He provides us with the courage to face all circumstances in and through Him. He uses the rapidly moving currents and the desert experiences to strengthen us in Him and His love.
Prayer: Dear Jesus, thank You for providing Your Holy Spirit to be my ever-flowing river in the midst of my rapidly moving life or spiritually dry moments. Thank You for being my solid Rock on which to stand. Amen.
