Many years ago an elderly woman in a foreign country was given a prized possession from a visiting servant of God, that gift being his own personal Bible. Taking it in her arms, she hugged that Bible for a long time and then returned it to its original owner. Wondering why she returned it, the servant asked her, “Why didn’t you keep it?” Her response: “I just wanted to hold it for a while to remind me of what is already in my heart.” Hugging it was like hugging Christ who to her was the true and living Word.
As part of our personal devotion to the blessed Redeemer and Savior, we learn to yearn and receive revelations from Scripture that the Spirit uncovers through His grace and mercy. In the Old Testament, His communion with us is revealed in prophecy, in the Psalms, and through the wisdom of the men who loved the Lord and understood His presence in their lives. In the New Testament we explore the fulfillment of Christ’s amazing love – a love that no man can fully comprehend. By daily studying His word, we discover that we are washed in the blood of the Lamb and are anxious to explore the powerful truths of Who He is.
Dear Lord, thank You for graciously giving me Your written word to read and study, for it reveals Jesus Christ, the Word that became flesh for me. Amen.
