I love powdered sugar on donuts. It sweetens the bland and dry taste of the donut itself. Even though the white powder gets stuck on my fingers and lands on my clothing, I never seem to mind for the taste makes it all worth the mess.
In our daily lives we often desire a powdery coating over our doubts, fears, and confusion. We wonder where God is in our circumstances or in the events of the world and desire something sweet that will coat it all and make it taste better. Hoping that our dry and bland solutions will work, we strive to make things happen, believing that we won’t mind the falling residue landing on us.
In reality, it is better to acknowledge that only in Christ can we develop a better understanding of His purpose for it all. Surrendering our hearts and minds as we rest in Him, we view the righteousness of Jesus Christ as sweeter than any taste of powdered sugar on our donuts (Psalm 19:10). Through the power of His Word and as a result of our baptism, we receive an immeasurable amount of spiritual sprinkling that spills over and leaves His taste of mercy resting upon us.
Prayer: Dear Jesus, You are our taste of sweetness received in and through your Word. May I never cease to receive it with joy. Amen.
