A maelstrom is a very powerful whirlpool, a large, swirling body of water. Having a free vortex, it has a considerable downdraft and anything caught in its spinning surge would stand little chance of survival. It would take a miracle for one to keep from being sucked into its trap.
Life, too, has a way of sucking us into its vortex of fear, despair, and sense of helplessness. Disasters, illnesses, loss of income, or family problems break our spirits and our banks. We feel caught in its downdraft and wonder how we can keep from being sucked into its trap.
Yet God remains with us in the center of the maelstrom to lift us, restore us, and enable us to look upward rather than inward. The Holy Spirit gives us peace in the midst of the vortex and a safe place on which to stand. Using God’s Word, we view the solid Rock, Jesus Christ, and receive from Him the strength to endure. Having given His all for us, His grace and mercy will overshadow the swirling surge around us and provide His solid ground to stand on.
Prayer: Dear Jesus, thank You putting a new song in my mouth, a hymn of praise to our God. As a result, many will see and fear the Lord. Amen.
