I will counsel you with my eye upon you.
I remember well a story of Gracie Burns, wife of George Burns, a TV comedian in the 60’s. Wondering why her clock didn’t work, she called in an electrician. He informed her that it wasn’t working because it wasn’t plugged in. To that she responded, “But I only plug it in when I want to know what time it is.”
Today many of us, like Gracie, believe we can run out lives without being plugged into the Source of all wisdom and strength – the Lord Jesus Christ. He Himself opens the window of knowledge for us in His words, “…apart from me you can do nothing” (John 15:5b). Like the Vine that gives us spiritual sap, Jesus nourishes us in His Word. As the Good Shepherd, He leads us to green pastures at His table. He is the Gate through whom we enter eternal life. As our Redeemer, He carried our burden of sin to the cross. And with His eye continually upon us, He is the teacher who desires to instruct us by His Word in the way we should go. That’s love. That’s grace!
Dear Jesus, thank You for being the living source of all that I need. Open my eyes to understand that, as my teacher and counselor, You will shield and protect me on my pathway through life. Amen.
