If our children were in extreme physical danger, we would hold on to them with every fiber of the strength we possess. If our spouse or parent needed our presence to bring them hope through a difficult procedure or illness, we would sit at their bedside and do all we could to comfort them. Love moves and motivates us to grasp them tightly, either through actions or through words of love and encouragement.
Christ took hold of us when He was born in Bethlehem. He held a tight grip us as He struggled in the Garden of Gethsemane, knowing the price He would soon have to pay. While on the cross, gasping for air with every breath, He grasped the power of Satan over us and released the hold the foe had on us. Through His death, He conquered all the strongholds that might tighten their grip on us and now, through our Baptism, grants us freedom from all that can bind us. He took hold of us so that through His Spirit, we can now take hold of Him and all that His salvation won for us by faith. Victory is ours through Christ and His strength enables us to press on for Him.
Prayer: Dear Jesus, help me not to forget the determination you revealed when you endured the cross for me. Thank you for the victory I possess in You. Amen
