When hiking a strenuous mountain trail, the last thing we need is a twisted ankle. If we painfully continue moving onward and upward, additional pain and swelling can occur. And as the path becomes more rough and rocky, we wonder how our journey can be completed.
In life, our circumstances can become as rough and rocky as traversing a mountain trail with a swollen, painful ankle. Concentrating more on what “might” happen, we stress over whether we will be able to hold up under the pressure. But God reminds us of His care and comfort in these words from Psalm 18.
As for God, his way is perfect; the word of the Lord is flawless. He is a shield for all who take refuge in him. For who is God besides the Lord? And who is the Rock except our God (Psalm 18:30-31 NIV)?
It is comforting to know that the path of life lying before us is road-tested by the perfect Savior, who remains as our shield and the Rock of our salvation. There is no path prepared for us that He has not already taken, for He walked the path of all mankind through His life on earth. And because of His sacrificial work, we now receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need (Hebrews 4:15-16).
Prayer: Dear Father, thank You for preparing the path for me and keeping me safe in Your kingdom. Amen.
