The hurricane winds blew fiercely and whistled through the doors and windows. It seemed impossible to sleep as I was uncertain as what to expect with the morning light. After hearing a terrifying noise, I believed that the very foundation under me was collapsing. As I lay silently in bed, these verses came to mind:
He lays the beams of his chambers on the waters; he makes the clouds his chariot;
he rides on the wings of the wind; he makes his messengers winds, his ministers a flaming fire.
He set the earth on its foundations; so that it should never be moved. Psalm 104:3-5
At that point, I was able to picture God present in the clouds for my protection, sending His angels to watch over me in danger. Calmness came over me and I knew He controlled the circumstances. I found it much easier to sleep through the remainder of the night.
Life’s foundations are shaky when tragedy or crises occur. Looking at the circumstances, we wonder if God cares. Yet, in His Word, He assures us that our greatest source of solid ground rests on Christ, in Whom is our trust and faith. Even if our world may rock to the core, the solid Rock of our foundation is that of knowing our safety and hope rests in Christ alone.
Prayer: Father, thank You for revealing that You are the solid foundation on which my faith rests. Amen.
