and was filled with compassion for him; he ran to his son,
threw his arms around him and kissed him.”
The Easter message exposes the powerful impact of Jesus, who not only suffered and died to redeem us, but also to release us from the power of sin, death, and the devil. That work of salvation, gained in and through Christ, is complete. There is nothing we can add to it or take away from it.
Yet there remains a continuing story, a story that is wrapped in the Father’s love. Knowing the willing and incredibly difficult price that His own Son paid for our redemption, the Father’s eyes are continually ranging the horizon for ways to strengthen us and remind us of Christ’s sacrifice (2 Chronicles 16:9). Having felt the agony of His own personal rejection of the sin that covered Jesus, He understands our weaknesses but also resolves to seek us out when we choose to go our own way. And, oh, the amazing excitement He experiences as He views us returning to Him! Accepting His Son’s covering of love and forgiveness, He runs to us with grace-filled arms and assures of His willingness to receive us back.
Dear Father, thank You for receiving and embracing me whenever I fail to acknowledge Your Son as my Lord and Savior. Open my eyes to Your power and His love. For His sake, I ask this. Amen.
